Phenotypic relationship between type and longevity in the Holstein breed

چکیده

The relationship between type traits and longevity was studied in the French Holstein breed using a survival analysis model where the phenotypic value or the estimated genetic value of the cow for each type trait was included as a risk factor. This was done separately for two subpopulations (registered and non registered herds) and with or without adjustment for production traits, i.e., considering true or functional longevity. For all herds, udder traits (and above all, udder depth) clearly influence length of productive life. There seems to be a more drastic voluntary culling on type traits in registered herds. The correction for production traits, as a way to approximate functional longevity, increases the importance of udder traits and decreases the weight of capacity traits. The same results were obtained when the phenotypic value of the cow for type was replaced by her EBV. The relationship between longevity and type traits is most often nonlinear, in particular for udder traits.

Reproductive Performance for Holstein Friesian × Arsi and Holstein Friesian × Boran Crossbred Cattle

The study was carried out at Agarfa ATVET College dairy farm to evaluate the reproductive performance of Holstein Friesian× Arsi and Holstein Friesian ×Boran cattle. For the study, records compiled from 1983 to 2012 at the Agarfa dairy farm were used as original data. The effects of breed, bloodlines, season and parity on the reproductive traits were evaluated. Data were analyzed using the gene...

Structural Equations Modeling of Hidden Genetic Constructs of Production, Reproduction and Longevity in Holstein Cows in Iran

In structural equation modeling, it is possible to create hidden variables that cannot be directly measured by the researcher. The aim of this study was to model the structural equations of hidden genetic constructs of production, reproduction and longevity of Holstein dairy cows in Iran using breeding value of the traits that make up these constructs. Accordingly, the breeding value of th...

Phenotypic associations between traits other than production and longevity in New Zealand dairy cattle.

A proportional hazards model was used to investigate the phenotypic effect of traits other than production (TOP) on true and functional longevity across purebred and crossbred Holstein-Friesian and Jersey dairy cattle in registered and commercial herds in New Zealand. The hazard function was described as the product of a baseline hazard function and the time-independent effects of age at first ...

Genetic and Phenotypic Trends of Fertility Traits in Iranian Holstein Cows

A total of 72124 fertility records was used to estimate the genetic and phenotypic trend of fertility traits in Iranian Holstein cow from 1981 to 2007. Fertility traits in this study were: days from calving to first service (DFS), number of insemination per conception (INS), days open (DO), interval between first and last insemination (IFL), calving interval (CI) and success to first inseminati...

Serological study of Neospora caninum infection in cattle from Ahvaz area, Iran

Abstract: In order to investigate the seroprevalence of Neospora caninum infection in cattle in Southwestern Iran, blood samples were collected from Holstein (121 animals) and cross-breed (436 animals) cattle from three farms and seven areas of Ahvaz, respectively. All of the Holstein cattle were “4 years old but cross-breed cattle were from different age groups ( < 2, 2-4, 5-6 and > 6 years ol...
